Ipratropium bromide and Salbutamol are combined in this medicine.
This medicine is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a long-term lung disease that causes airflow obstruction making it hard to breathe).
Use Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a solution used with a nebuliser or as an inhaler.
Make sure you know how to use the specific device you have been given. If you have problems or do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how to use it.
If you are using a nebuliser mask, make sure that it fits well on your face.
If you are using the inhaler, wipe the mouthpiece of the inhaler with a dry tissue to clean it. Do not wash or put any part of your inhaler in water.
Do not share your inhaler with others as it could spread infection.
Avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes. If the medicine gets into your eyes, flush with clean water immediately. See a doctor quickly if you experience any problems with your eyesight after the solution or mist enters your eyes.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions as to how many nebules to use and how often to use your inhaler.
Inform your doctor if your medicine does not seem to be working as well as usual, as your chest problem may be getting worse, and you may need a different medicine.
Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol must be used regularly for it to be effective. Continue using this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop using it unless instructed by the doctor.
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Ipratropium bromide, Salbutamol, atropine or medicines similar to atropine.
Alert your doctor if you have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (abnormally thick heart muscle that results in blockage of blood flow) or tachyarrhythmia (very fast heartbeat) as Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
- heart disease or blood vessel problems e.g. high blood pressure
- severe blockage in the airway
- cystic fibrosis (an inherited disease that causes excessively thick and sticky mucus build up in the lungs, intestines, or other organs)
- prostate enlargement or have problems urinating
- fits or seizures
- overactive thyroid gland
- diabetes
- phaeochromocytoma (rare tumour of the adrenal gland causing high blood pressure)
- low potassium level in the blood
- kidney disease
- liver disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.
If you are going to have certain laboratory tests (e.g. doping), inform your doctor that you are using this medicine.
Why is it important to keep my appointments with the doctor?
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
- Routine tests (e.g. lung function, sugar and potassium levels, heart rate) may be done while you are being treated with this medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
- Your blood pressure may rise to unsafe levels without you noticing it. Monitor your blood pressure regularly during treatment.
- Regular monitoring of signs and symptoms of glaucoma, allergic reactions, urinary retention (inability to completely empty the bladder when urinating), and shortness of breath may also be needed.
Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol may cause dizziness or blurred vision. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or need to see clearly.
Other side effects include any of the following: headache, dry mouth, nose or throat irritation, nausea, constipation, altered taste, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, leg cramps, tremors, and voice problems.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- signs and symptoms of bronchospasm (breathing distress caused by tightening and narrowing of the airways) e.g. difficulty breathing, wheezing, cough
- muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps, abnormal heartbeat
- pain or difficulty in passing urine, passing urine in drips or weak stream
- eye pain, changes in eyesight, severe eye irritation
- signs and symptoms of allergic reaction e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- certain medicines for high blood pressure e.g. propranolol
- water pills or medicines for water retention e.g. hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide
- anti-inflammatory medicines e.g. prednisolone
- certain medicines to treat depression e.g. amitriptyline, isocarboxazid
- theophylline (asthma medicine)
- digoxin (medicine for irregular heartbeat)
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Ipratropium bromide + Salbutamol.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Keep away from the reach of children.
If you are using the inhaler, throw away the canister after the indicated number of doses is used up.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
